Given the recent scandals about theft of land from the greenbelt and from Ontario Place,
I offer the above parody version of our provincial anthem, which I sketched out quickly on some small scraps of paper and pasted together fast and sloppy:
For Our Rights We Stand
For our rights we stand,
and to theft say no.
Don't steal our land,
Ontario.
Don't steal our land.
To theft say no.
On-ta-ri-a-ri-a-ri-o.
and to theft say no.
Don't steal our land,
Ontario.
Don't steal our land.
To theft say no.
On-ta-ri-a-ri-a-ri-o.
Many will remember the anthem from childhood; if not, here's a link:
It is interesting to note that our national anthem O Canada is free and public but the provincial anthem "A Place to Stand" is copyright-restricted and locked-down for the most part, perhaps in keeping with the philosophy of privatization that plagues our province.
