Today = Friday we plan to swim, paddle, row, or walk (waterballing) the 85-metre (about two pool lengths or 19 car lengths) distance across the Ontario Place West Channel to celebrate court victory with OPP and the pictures we got during Monday's swim which were instrumental in helping the court case on Tuesday (see http://wearcam.org/opp.pdf).
We meet 3pm at the bike rack by the West Swimdock just slightly West of the Bailey Bridge (footbridge over Lakeshore Boulevard near the breakwall).
The bike rack is just opposite the Gap in the breakwall (see attached map/chart).
Some people plan to swim/paddle/row the short 85-metre distance and others plan to do the longer 750-metre distance all the way to Micheal Hough Beach.
Safety first!
- We each swim at our own risk.
- We do not attempt to swim in open water unless we're experienced swimmers.
- We never swim alone.
- We always wear a towfloat and we have some spare towfloats in case anyone forgot to bring one. This is important to make sure we're visible to passing boats.
- Note the Channel is used by the rowing clubs 4:30-6:30pm so it is best to cross before or after this time range.
- We always wear appropriate eyewear and make sure we can see clearly.
- We carry communications equipment in our towfloats.
- We always have an emergency whistle capable of operation above or below the water.
