Support safe spot for swimmers at Toronto Island

See attached map showing the proposed no-motorized-boat zone with buoys.

For decades, Hanlan’s Point Beach has been a haven for deep lake swimmers, offering calm, shallow water and a rare open-water swimming experience in Toronto. But reckless boaters and Jet Skis have made it increasingly dangerous—speeding through swim areas, anchoring too close to shore, and even crashing onto the beach. In July 2024, Toronto City Council approved a Motorized Watercraft Exclusion Zone (MWEZ) to fix this, but now Aquatics, Marine Police, and Ports Toronto are trying to shrink it to a useless size—one that won’t stop these hazards. A proper MWEZ would create a much-needed protected area for deep lake swimmers and paddlers, free from boat wake, noise, and constant safety threats. The zone would allow for up to a 5km loop swim or paddle from Trilium Park's firepit to Gibraltar Point and back, of which 4.5km would be protected and within this zone.

Your support can help keep Hanlan’s a safe and accessible space for open-water swimmers and paddlers.
